Concerto Competition Calendar 2024
For 2024, the Concerto competition will take place alongside the main competition. For 2024, there will not be an orchestra performance.

Piano Solo Category

1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be selected in each age division.

REQUIRED REPERTOIRE
2 contrasting pieces (see additional rules), memory is required.

Piano Solo Novice Category
The Piano Solo Novice category is for competitors who are new to competing or who are not seeking a heavily competitive category. This is an opportunity for all students to experience performing in a competitive environment. Beginner through intermediate level pianists are encouraged to participate. If you are a beginner to competing, this may be the category for you.

Age is determined as an average of the participants for the Ensemble Category.
Elementary Division (ages 5-10): 5 minutes
Junior Division (ages 11-14): 8 minutes
Senior Division (ages 15-18): 10 minutes
6 finalist groups will be selected from each age group

Piano in Chamber Ensemble Category
GROUPS
Ensembles must consist of 3-5 people and must include piano.
GROUP ENTRY FEE: $60
AGE DIVISIONS & TIME LIMITS
Junior (ages 5-15)
Senior (ages 16+)
All Chamber ensembles will be allowed 3 minutes for set up and 12 minutes for performance.
Please place the groups in the appropriate division according to the average age of the ensemble participants (average age of the group rounded up)
AWARDS FOR 1ST PRIZE
Junior: $160
Senior: $240
All participants will be given a certificate of participation. 1st place will receive a cash prize, 2nd and 3rd place will receive a certificate of recognition for their award. All prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the judges.

Additional Information:
Chamber ensembles will be allowed 3 minutes for set up and 10 minutes for performance.
The preliminary video recording must include at least two contrasting movements, not necessarily from the same work.

Additional Rules and Regulations
All Concerto competitors will perform unaccompanied in the video submission and the LIVE Final Round. Cuts of orchestra sections are allowed in the video submission . Solo passages must be prepared in their entirety.
A registration Fee is due upon submission of your application. At registration competitors will include YouTube links to the video in the form. Read video submission instructions carefully.
All participants will receive a certificate of participation and adjudication comments. Prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the judges. The top 20 percent of Novice competitors will receive Honors.
No changes in repertoire are allowed between preliminary and final rounds. Memory is required for both rounds. Performers must be able to perform their complete work, but may be cut off by the time limit.
PRELIMINARY ROUND: Preliminaries will be judged by one judge from video recordings. Competitors will submit one separate video recording per piece. Video recordings must be unedited with the camera view showing full body and hands at the keyboard. Competitors must state “This recording is made for the Ogden Piano Festival.” Any additional speaking in video recordings may result in disqualification.
Videos must not have text overlay or any other identifying information about the student, their teacher, or previous competitions they have participated in either in the video or description .
Competitors will be judged on technical mastery, artistry, stage presence, and musicianship. By submitting a video link, competitors consent to have their videos viewed by the competition judges as well as the OPF board.
VIDEO SUBMISSION
Note that failure to comply with these instructions may result in disqualification.
Name the video according to the following instructions:
OPF Prelim, Last Name plus first initial, Category (ex. OPFPrelimJonesRSolo)
Announce your piece or composer in the video. There should be no identifying information included as part of the video written or spoken in either the video or video description including your name.
You will be asked to provide the video link in your registration form.
The first round of this competition is held online through the use of YouTube. Personal information collected from competitors will be used in accordance with the YouTube Community Guidelines, which is available here: YouTube Community Guidelines which you agree to when submitting your videos. Information will be used in accordance with YouTube policy and within the guidelines for this competition.
Each competitor unequivocally agrees to the use of their personal information for such purposes.
FINAL ROUND
Original music must be provided to judges for the final round. Each measure must be numbered on the left side of the measure.
The LIVE Competition Final will take place in November 2024 at the Pleasant Valley Library at 5568 S Adams Ave, Washington Terrace, UT 84405.
ELIGIBILITY
All ages are as of June 1, 2024. Participants should check the age requirement for the category in which they are participating.
A parent or legal guardian of a candidate who is under the age of 18 must ensure that the competitor will comply with these rules and warrant that the parent or legal guardian and competitor are capable of agreeing to these rules and giving the necessary consent. In addition, the parent or legal guardian must be present during the LIVE round if the competitor advances.
WINNERS
Winners will receive a monetary prize.
The LIVE Competition Final will take place in November 2024 at the Pleasant Valley Library 5568 S Adams Ave, Washington Terrace, UT 84405.
